The Oakhurst Fire Department is dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment in the Township of Ocean through prevention, education, and emergency response. As a volunteer-driven organization with over a century of service, we commit to:
We serve with courage, integrity, and dedication for the safety and well-being of our community today and for generations to come.
For over a century, the Oakhurst Fire Department has protected the Oakhurst and Wayside areas of the Township of Ocean. As a predominantly volunteer force, our dedicated team responds to 700-800 calls annually.
The strength of our department lies in our members, many of whom represent second, third, and even fourth generations of firefighting families. All of us complete over 100 hours of certified training at the Monmouth County Fire Academy, plus ongoing in-house training.
Get to know the brave men and women who make up our firefighting team. Our firefighters are not just emergency responders but active community members dedicated to protecting and serving with integrity and honor.
The history of the Oakhurst Fire Department reflects more than a century of dedication to public service and community protection. From thirteen forward-thinking citizens in 1913, the organization has evolved into one of the Township of Ocean’s most vital institutions. This timeline traces our journey from a humble hose company to a modern emergency response organization, highlighting the major milestones, equipment acquisitions, and significant emergency responses that have shaped our department.
